Thank You Knit Lady
Here's to all the women who pass on the skill of knitting. Here's the to patience and love in each student and teacher pair. Learning to knit is an intimate exchange of skills. It's a hands on experience if you are lucky, for I realize you can find out anything you want to on YouTube. However sitting side by side and feeling gentle hands take yours when you need a little help is a cozy feeling. There's history in the skill. It's best passed down one knitter at a time or in a comfy knit circle. So here is to the nameless woman who taught me to knit one autumn afternoon during the afterschool program at the library. I came back weekly to finish my project. I think fondly of the orange tube we made and stuffed with bread bags, glued on some eyes and called a snake. Thank you for passing on a comforting skill I use everyday.
