Oban to Mull to Iona

And so it was that the two ladies who thought they wouldn’t take very many pictures on their trip to Scotland took lots and lots and LOTS of landscape shots. It’s hard not to. There’s so much to ooo and ahh over. But at some point we did set down the iPhones and just rested in the peaceful green of Scotland. Descriptions of each row are below. I did edit myself, I did not include every photo taken! HONEST!

Row 1: We took a train from Glasgow to Oban. Three and a half hours. Mmmm so delightful. I knit and watched the scenery go by. I’m proud of that castle shot, the road lines right up with the castle, and I took it from a moving train!

Row 2: The views from our hotel room in Oban. We were glad the taxi drive hauled out luggage to the top of the stairs of the entrance for us. Ooof! The location gave us lovely views.

Row 3: The ferry ride from Oban to the Isle of Mull, one step closer to Iona!

Row 4: The Abbey on Iona was established around 600 or 800 (I didn’t go to the lecture about the history, oops). To be someplace where folks have found a sacred connection for over a thousand years truly sank into my bones.

Row 5: St Columba Hotel was a pleasant home base for our week on the island. It was also a very delicious place to be. These are photos of the extensive organic garden. So much of it ended up on our tables, from centerpiece to main dish. Yum!

Row 6:We took SO MANY photos while on Iona. These are four good ones. Obviously the post office was important to me. I mailed a few postcards. They cost $2.50 each and took two weeks to make it to their destinations! But it was fun to use the tiny post office.

Row 7: And finally there are more animals than people on Iona. The sheep especially have a lovely life. Like us they walked in the road. There is NO traffic on the island because there are very very few cars.
