More Oscar Tid-bits & Photos

You can see a flick of my purple hair in the first photo, proof I was there, in a sea of tuxes.

The tent that covers the red carpet is constructed over a long street, but it really feels like you are inside. It’s Hollywood, California we suspend our disbelieve all the time!

Our seats up in Mezzanine Three were very high. It was disorienting and made me a little dizzy at first. But I got over it.

I was amazed at how many folks walked in and out over us during the commercial breaks. The draw of free booze was too tempting I guess.

We had snacks under our seats. That was a surprise. The other surprise was no one carried the boxes out to the trash. It felt wrong not to help, but of course there were hired minions to do that job for all of us.

The commercial breaks were amusing to me. At home they seem so long, but in the theater it’s only two and a half minutes. They count down the last minute and still folks are not in their chairs. “We’re back in 30. 15. 10. 9. 8…5. 4. A little applause please.” He changed up his last phrase after so many times. “Let’s hear it, applause please.” “A little love for the best pictures.” “And one last time, applause please.”

The tiny man standing there is just to give you a sense of scale. That’s Mick Jagger announcing best song. I watched the jumbo screens as much as the stage itself.

Anticipation was half the fun of this event. We are going to the Oscars. Now we’ve been. It was a blast to be in the room where it happens. I made it without aching toes. I made it in full makeup. I enjoyed the celebrity spotting. I enjoyed watching all the clothes go by. I’m glad we had a turn to attend. But I don’t need to go back unless Rod is actually nominated.
