I Scream You Scream We All Scream
Attending the The National Needlework Association’s Trade Show this weekend puts me right next to Jeni’s Ice Cream in Columbus, Ohio. It is walking distance from the convention center to such flavors as Brambleberry Crisp, Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet and Lime Cardamon Frozen Yogurt. Yum. How the heck does this California girl know about such delicious Ohio craziness? Well it all started in my husband’s office. One day Rod came home from work and told me about his team meeting. It was his boss’s birthday and she had shipped in ice cream for the occasion. Hmm. You can ship ice cream? Yeah, but listen to these flavors. Rod went on to describe tastes way beyond anything in the freezer case at the Safeway or Baskin Robbins. I was jealous to say the least. But I filed this info away. After all I have a birthday every year too. I could get ice cream shipped to me!This is pricey ice cream. It’s more than a whim to have it delivered to your doorstep. So I waited for a big birthday. When I turned 50 I ordered 12 pints of ice cream: Bootstrap Molasses, Toasted Marshmallow Sweet Potato, Wild Lavender, and Salty Caramel to name a few. The evening before my party two cases of ice cream packed in dry ice arrived. Such delight. Such extravagance.I invited 12 ladies to join me for a tasting. I bought 100 tiny recyclable spoons. We each tasted each flavor. We scored and rated them. We took big bowls of our favorites. We had seconds. It was a delicious evening. And now I am working right next door at the trade show. Jeni has summer flavors. And I am going to indulge. It’s also a perfect way to thank my booth helper. She may not work for peanuts but she will certainly work for ice cream. Smart woman. (BTW my “booth bunny” happens to be my mom. It sure helps having my biggest fan tell folks about my book at TNNA. Teehee)
