Summer Knitting

I hate summer. Honestly, I do. I hate the heat and chlorine in my hair. I hate sand in my house and the long days. And I hate summer knitting. It’s light and small and usually pastel. My craft of choice just does not go to the beach. It doesn’t fit in sweaty hands. And it certainly isn’t good to curl up in the evening with an afghan project on my lap.But this year there is a glimmer of hope. For one thing I have air conditioning and I’m not afraid to use it. However my break through moment came this spring when I made my first piece of lace. It was a challenge and a delight all at once. I used lifelines. I learned to “read” my stitches. I still had to rip back several times. I ran out of yarn and had to drive 70 miles round trip to get more. I was hooked though. And now the hunt begins. Can I find another satisfying lace project to get me through the summer months?I love it that a hobby I thought I knew well has surprised me again. I resisted lace for a long time. It’s too tiny and complicated. The yarn is too thin. The charts are too long. I complained and steered clear of anything to do with lace. Now the knitting I avoided will help me get through the season I hate. Hmmm. Lesson learned? More like cranky summer knitter finds a way to survive till sweater weather returns again. Teehee.
