Yarn Crawl

Have you heard this term? The yarn crawl? Think pub crawl but with yarn! Yes that’s right knitters drunk with new fiber finds. And you don’t even need a designated driver! Pile in the car with a knit buddy and take to the open road for yarn. A little planning and goggle research could give you miles of fun and a new adventure.A friend and I were on our way to a retreat for the weekend so we left early to hit three yarn shops on the way to our destination. What is not to love about new yarn shops? Yarn at a better price. One stop we happened upon a sale: everything was 20% off! Décor you’ve not seen let. One stop was a shop nestled in a group of gift shops and artist studios. Patterns and samples to be drooled over. Another stop had lots of books to flip through not to mention lovely displays of samples.Finding new shops is great fun. Buying yarn and patterns is cool too. But the best parts of visiting a yarn shop is talking with the knitters hanging out there. I ask what they are knitting. I get recommendations on their favorite yarns and patterns. (I even got directions to a great ice cream shop!) I always smile at how easy it is to talk to folks in a yarn shop. Such friendly places to visit. So many good ideas, good vibes, and goodness in one place. Next time you have reason to travel, even for a short distance, take the time to see if there is a yarn shop nearby. You’ll be so glad you did.
